HEDENKAMP GATE
Welcome to Hedenkamp’s GATE BLOG. Here, you will be able to learn about the weekly GATE activities and events.
The Hedenkamp GATE Program is an after school accelerated program for students that have been identified by their successes on several assessments. First, all third grade students take the Raven’s Test. The Raven’s tests students on pattern-recognition, attention to details, memory and spatial reasoning. All students scoring above the 95% will be invited to attend our GATE Classes. In addition, students that have scored advanced or close to advanced on the California Standards Test will also be invited.
The main focus of our GATE Program is using Technology to support academic learning through writing and speaking. To be truly successful, our students must be able to write and speak well. To support this effort, our GATE students will create, write, design and produce a weekly Hedenkamp News Television Station. Students will learn how to film and edit using several software programs. They will be required to write and produce a weekly news program highlighting the activities and events that occur at Hedenkamp. This news program will be posted on hedenkamphuskies.com each week.
In addition, Hedenkamp Students will learn about multi-media and the power of using video and digital photography to present their thoughts and ideas. Students will be asked to think, speak and write critically and analytically. All students will be expected to keep a portfolio of their work throughout the year.
